Standard

Standard models are the oldest style of motorcycle still in production. They’re relatively simple bikes with a design that can be used in any number of ways. If you’re still trying to figure out your riding style, these motorcycles are jacks of all trades, allowing you the freedom to explore your needs and wants.

Cruiser

When you picture a motorcycle, chances are you’re picturing a cruiser model. These are classically-styled bikes that prioritize power and control and are best used for cruising around a set area, like your town or city. The two most famous subclasses are choppers and power cruisers. Choppers are “chopped” down version, leaner, louder, and harder to control but boasting a minimalist design that makes it a favorite amongst experienced riders.

Power cruisers are exactly what they sound like. They’re souped-up versions of the normal cruiser with higher speeds, faster acceleration, and more torque, not to mention more up-to-date technology.

Sport

These motorcycles have heavy fronts and are built for speed and agility. Sport bikes are relatively lightweight and have a forward-leaning seat design that might be a struggle for shorter riders. That said, there’s no better motorcycle for an adrenaline junky.

Touring

Touring motorcycles are some of the beefiest models, in part due to larger engines, but in part due to the built-in storage. They’re built for cross-country “tours,” which are the biking version of road trips, and are designed for comfort, efficiency, and the power needed to conquer hundreds of miles of highway. They’re also some of the longest-lasting motorcycles.

Off-Road

The final major type of motorcycle is the off-road motorcycle, also known as a dirt bike. These lean machines are built for exploring nature, racing through mud, and generally conquering the great outdoors. They have taller seats to keep the rider out of undergrowth and incredible suspension to keep the rider comfortable. Dirt bikes don’t typically have lights, and their durable frames are made of flexible plastic rather than rigid metals to help them recover from inevitable crashes.
