How to Handle a Service Department Visit
Your motorcycle is a powerful, rugged machine designed for speed and efficiency, but it’s not invincible. Whether it’s just regular maintenance or a serious repair, you’ll likely take it to a service department at some point or another. We here at North County Indian Motorcycle® know that everyone’s a bit out of practice with in-person visits, so we’ve put together a few tips on how to handle a service department visit, below. Schedule Ahead of Time
The last few years have turned already-busy lives into hectic ones, so it’s always best to schedule your service visits well in advance when it’s possible. Naturally, some repairs and problems come up last-second and might require an emergency visit, but showing up without an appointment can lead to long waits.
Believe it or not, your owner’s manual knows exactly what maintenance your bike needs and when. Check it for recommendations on maintenance schedules for the various parts and systems in your motorcycle.
Temper Expectations
When you set up an appointment, most departments will provide you with an ETA to say how long the service you requested will take. Unfortunately, even when you make your appointment way ahead of time, there’s always the possibility of unforeseen delays. Staffing issues, unexpected complications with your bike, and any number of other issues can cause minor setbacks that prolong the time your motorcycle is in the shop. Just keep in mind that the staff are doing their best to meet your needs as quickly and precisely as they can.
List of Questions and Concerns
It can be easy to get distracted in the moment or otherwise forget small details you wanted to discuss when the appointment actually happens, so try to create a list for yourself. Note all the concerns, questions, and issues you have beforehand so you can remember them when the time comes!
The Right Department
Obvious as this may sound, not all service departments are created equal. Different places will have different processes, priorities, and specialties, sometimes resulting in differences in pricing, customer satisfaction, and expertise. If you don’t have a preferred location already, look around online in advance to ensure you get the experience you want—and, of course, to make sure you bring your motorcycle to motorcycle maintenance specialists.
