If you’ve recently purchased your first motorcycle, you’re likely eager to hit the road, meet fellow enthusiasts, and learn everything there is to know about your new bike! However, riding a  motorcycle comes with a unique etiquette that many new riders aren’t aware of. To make sure you don't step on any toes, we advise reading through our short list of riding do’s and don’ts below.

Do

  • Join Riding Groups

Riding in a group is a great way to meet other motorcycle enthusiasts and get involved in the community! However, never join a group without an invite, or as they’re riding around town. Not only is it considered quite rude, but you could confuse pre-determined riding positions.

  • Park Next to Other Motorcycles

Motorcycles don’t take up much space, and it’s usually fine to park in the same spot as another rider. Just be sure to leave plenty of space for the other person to mount and ride away.

Don’t

  • Touch

While you’re welcome to admire another motorcycle from afar, never walk up to a model and touch it without the owner’s permission.

  • Ask to Ride

In the same vein as the rule above, it’s considered incredibly rude to ask a person to take their motorcycle for a spin. A majority of riders aren’t interested in letting others ride their motorcycles and those that are would prefer to offer you a ride, rather than be badgered for one.

  • Pull Up at a Stop

While pulling up next to another motorcycle at a traffic stop may seem friendly, it usually causes quite a bit of confusion for other drivers. Who goes first? What if you’re turning in different directions? Instead, pull up behind the other motorcycle just like you would a car.
