Motorcycle crashes are a serious matter, often resulting in injury or even death. It only makes sense that you would want to do what you can to help prevent a crash. That’s why the experts at North Country Indian Motorcycle® have created this guide to preventing a motorcycle crash.

Stay Visible

Riding a motorcycle usually means sharing the road with larger vehicles like cars and trucks. While ideally other motorists will always be alert and paying attention, there are times when that simply won’t be the case. That’s why you need to do what you can to become easier to spot. Better visibility decreases the risk that you’ll end up getting struck by another driver. One way to make yourself easier to see is by riding in a pack. Another is to wear brightly colored clothing. While dark colored leather might be traditional biking attire, it can make you much more difficult to see, especially at night. Throw on some neon outerwear or other brightly colored clothing. You can also add reflective tape to your riding gear.

Improve Your Own Visibility

While it’s important that others be able to see you, making sure that you yourself are able to see is just as crucial! That’s why you should only ride if your headlights are fully functional. If your current set doesn’t give off as much light as you’d prefer, try upgrading to LED. If you use a windshield, make sure that it’s clean and installed to the correct height. Finally, your helmet shield and goggles should have anti-fogging capacities to ensure that they don’t become a hindrance to your visibility when it rains.

Keep Riding Skills Sharp

Keeping your riding skills sharp is another way to help reduce your risk of getting in a motorcycle crash. If you’re just starting out, we recommend taking a basic riding course to build up your skills. If you’re an experienced rider who’s grown a bit rusty, a refresher may be just what you need.
