How To Improve Your Motorcycle’s Performance
Whether you’re looking to make your ride faster or enjoy a better fuel economy, most motorcycle owners stand to benefit from a boost in performance. If you’re interested in making some improvements to how your motorcycle performs, check out this guide from the experts at North County Indian Motorcycle®.
Improve The Air Intake
Improving the air intake is a cheap yet effective way to boost your motorcycle’s overall performance. One way to do this is with a free-flowing air filter. An airbox removal kit is another option, though this tends to cost a bit more. Just bear in mind that the change in air mixture can increase fuel consumption.
Improve The Exhaust
Improving your motorcycle’s exhaust has a load of benefits, including boosted horsepower, increased torque, reduced overall weight, and making the motorcycle quieter. Some people also feel that changing up the exhaust makes the bike look better. You have a couple different options for improving your exhaust, so do some research to determine which will best match your budget.
Use High-Quality Fuel Filters
Fuel filters clean your fuel before it goes into your engine. By using high-quality filters and swapping them out frequently, you can help keep your motorcycle’s engine cleaner overall.
Octane
If you’ve ever pulled up to a gas station and seen the various grades of gasoline, you may have at least a passing familiarity with the term octane. It refers to the amount of pressure that fuel can safely be exposed to within a combustion engine. Premium fuel has a higher octane, which means better performance. Of course, a bike needs to be specially modified before it can reap the benefits of higher octane fuel. Furthermore, a bike that has been modified in this way cannot use lower-quality fuel without the risk of engine damage, so think hard about whether you want to make this upgrade.
Reduce Your Motorcycle's Weight
The lighter a motorcycle is, the better its acceleration and overall agility. There are many tricks you can use to reduce your motorcycle’s weight, such as swapping out the two person seat for a single rider seat, packing lighter, and deliberately not filling your fuel tank all the way.
Take Care of Your Tires
Old, worn out tires will only harm your motorcycle’s performance. Try to keep your motorcycle’s tires within the manufacturer approved pressure range, and replace your motorcycle’s tires as needed.
