Five Rules of Motorcycle Riding
Anyone who rides a motorcycle understands there's etiquette and a few guidelines to follow. Although there may not be a rulebook that comes with owning a motorcycle, you still need to follow a few rules to respect other people on the road. From our team at North County Indian Motorcycle®, we have a few of the top unwritten rules to be aware of before you get on your bike. Visit our dealership locations in San Marcos and Corona, California, serving residents of San Diego and Oceanside.
Keep Your Hands to Yourself
It can be tempting to want to touch other motorcycles as you check out their cool features and design elements. However, it's important to avoid having contact with it unless the owner of the bike gives you permission. It's also not polite to get onto a bike or start the engine without asking the owner first.
Steer Clear of Small Objects
Small bugs and pests that are flying around may not be an issue when you're in a car but can be dangerous and messy while riding a bike at a high speed. These types of insects can splatter on your face if you don't wear a helmet with a visor. They can also scare you if you don't expect to get hit in the face by a fly or bee.
Inspect the Road for Debris
Whether someone dropped a paint bucket on the road, there are a few potholes present, there's a shredded tire, etc., the roads are full of hazards, Always scan your environment to ensure you can watch out for potential hazards that can easily lead to an accident. Scan a few feet ahead at all times.
Ride Defensively
It's important to always keep in mind that accidents are waiting to happen when you're in proximity to cars and trucks on the road. Expect to get cut off and maintain a safe distance from the car in front of you. Remaining conscious of drivers' mistakes can make it easier to avoid potential collisions and protect yourself.
Don't Park Too Close
Many bikers make the mistake of parking too close to other motorcycles, which can make it dangerous for them to attempt to get onto the bike without bumping into your motorcycle. Remain respectful with how close you park, and leave them more room than they need to ensure they can ride off safely.
